Usuarios inexpertos prefieren hotmail

Troubleshoot connectivity problems

If you have problems when you sign in to Windows Live Messenger, try any of the following troubleshooting techniques to correct the issue:
Check your Messenger connection settings:
If you can't sign in to Messenger, the connection settings (Settings associated with your Internet connection.) in Messenger might be preventing you from connecting to Windows Live ID or .NET Messenger Service.

1. Select Tools, and then click Options.
2. Under Connection, click Advanced Settings.
3. In the Settings dialog box, click Test in the HTTP section. When the test results appear in the Connection Tester dialog box, click OK.
4. Click OK, and then click OK again.
5. Use the test results to determine which settings are causing the connection issue.

Check your Internet connection settings:
Visit another website to confirm that you're connected to the Internet. If the website does not open, contact your ISP (Internet service provider. A company that provides access to the Internet.) for assistance in connecting to the Internet. If you previously connected through a dial-up network, check your Internet connection settings.

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab.
4. Click Dial whenever a network connection is not present.

Check your firewall settings:
If your firewall (A security feature designed to help protect a computer from unauthorized external access. It can be hardware, software, or both.) is set to block Messenger, you'll be unable to sign in to Messenger.
To resolve this issue, try the following:

1. Visit the MSN Web Messenger website.
2. Click Start MSN Web Messenger, and then try to sign in.
3. If you can sign in to MSN Web Messenger, Messenger may be blocked by a firewall.
4. If your computer is running third-party (non-Microsoft) software or firewall software, make sure that the software is set to allow Messenger to operate, and then try to sign in to Messenger again.

Clear Windows Live Messenger proxy settings:

1. Start Messenger.
2. Select Tools, and then click Options.
3. Under Connection, click Advanced Settings.
4. Under SOCKS, delete the entries.
5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Adjust the Windows Internet Explorer proxy settings:

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
4. Clear the Automatically detect settings check box.
5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Notes

* If this is the first time you've logged in to your computer, you may have no contacts listed, but you will still be able to send instant messages.
* If you add a contact, then access your account from another computer, the contact may not show up on the other computer, but you will still be able to send instant messages.
* If your firewall or hardware doesn't support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) (A popular standard for connecting computers to devices that allows compatibility among a wide variety of networking devices.) , then manually activating outbound port 1863 can sometimes help establish a direct connection to some Microsoft .NET Messenger Service servers.

Troubleshoot your phone for Windows Live Messenger

If you're unable to complete a call with your phone for Windows Live Messenger (A digital cordless phone that serves as a traditional landline phone and as a hardware extension to Windows Live Messenger, allowing you to make and receive Internet calls throughout the home or office.) , attempt to make the call by using Messenger on your computer. If you can make the call with Messenger on your computer, you may have a problem with phone for Windows Live Messenger.

To troubleshoot this issue, try the following:

* Check all phone cables and power connections. It isn't necessary to have the phone base plugged into your phone jack to make calls to another computer.
* Make sure that the phone has been recognized by your computer. If the phone icon isn't present in the notification area in the taskbar on your computer, unplug the phone from your computer, and then plug it in again.
* If the handset isn't on the base, you can locate it by paging it. See your phone's user manual for instructions on paging the handset.
* Switch to PC mode by pressing the Windows Live Messenger or PC Connect button on the phone handset.

—or—
Select the PC Callsoftkey (A key on a phone for Messenger that performs whatever function is shown near it on the display.) if it's available on your phone. Try the following:

* If the display reads Please Sign in, you aren't signed in to Windows Live Messenger. Sign in through your phone or your computer, and then make your call.
* If the display reads Please connect PC or USB not connected, the USB cable or connection isn't functioning. Make sure that the phone is connected to the PC, and that Microsoft Windows XP is started.
* If the display reads Phone Application not available or Check PC Phone driver, your computer isn't communicating with the phone. Log off Windows, remove the phone's USB cable, log on to Windows again, and then plug the USB cable back in.
* If the display reads No Windows Live Messenger Accounts are set with saved passwords, you haven't selected the Remember me and Remember my Password check boxes on the Messenger sign in page. Sign in manually.
* To end a process and return the phone to its starting screen, press the End, Off, or Red phone button on the handset.

Notes

* Phone for Messenger works only with Messenger 8.0 or later.
To check your version of Messenger, click Help on the Messenger sign-in window, and then select About.
* Phone for Messenger doesn't work with Microsoft Windows Messenger

Windows Live Messenger and Windows Messenger

Work with Microsoft Windows Messenger and Windows Live Messenger on the same computer
Microsoft Windows XP comes with Windows Messenger, which remains available even after Windows Live Messenger is installed on your computer. Windows Messenger is primarily designed for business use and does not include many of the fun features of Windows Live Messenger. If both products are installed on your computer, you may want to configure them so they don't conflict with one another.

Set Windows Messenger to stop starting automatically

If you sign in to both Windows Messenger and Messenger by using the same Windows Live ID, the program that started first will stop when the second program starts. You can set Windows Messenger to stop starting automatically.

* Start Windows Messenger.
* On the Help menu, click Help Topics.
* Open Stop the Windows Messenger program from starting automatically, and follow the steps in the topic.

Use a different Windows Live ID

You can use Windows Messenger and Messenger at the same time if you use a different Windows Live ID to sign in to each program.

Note
Some programs, such as Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, and Remote Assistance, connect to Windows Messenger by default. When you're signed in to Messenger, you may appear online to people who connect to these programs and have you listed as a contact.
