Troubleshoot your phone for Windows Live Messenger

If you're unable to complete a call with your phone for Windows Live Messenger (A digital cordless phone that serves as a traditional landline phone and as a hardware extension to Windows Live Messenger, allowing you to make and receive Internet calls throughout the home or office.) , attempt to make the call by using Messenger on your computer. If you can make the call with Messenger on your computer, you may have a problem with phone for Windows Live Messenger.

To troubleshoot this issue, try the following:

* Check all phone cables and power connections. It isn't necessary to have the phone base plugged into your phone jack to make calls to another computer.
* Make sure that the phone has been recognized by your computer. If the phone icon isn't present in the notification area in the taskbar on your computer, unplug the phone from your computer, and then plug it in again.
* If the handset isn't on the base, you can locate it by paging it. See your phone's user manual for instructions on paging the handset.
* Switch to PC mode by pressing the Windows Live Messenger or PC Connect button on the phone handset.

Select the PC Callsoftkey (A key on a phone for Messenger that performs whatever function is shown near it on the display.) if it's available on your phone. Try the following:

* If the display reads Please Sign in, you aren't signed in to Windows Live Messenger. Sign in through your phone or your computer, and then make your call.
* If the display reads Please connect PC or USB not connected, the USB cable or connection isn't functioning. Make sure that the phone is connected to the PC, and that Microsoft Windows XP is started.
* If the display reads Phone Application not available or Check PC Phone driver, your computer isn't communicating with the phone. Log off Windows, remove the phone's USB cable, log on to Windows again, and then plug the USB cable back in.
* If the display reads No Windows Live Messenger Accounts are set with saved passwords, you haven't selected the Remember me and Remember my Password check boxes on the Messenger sign in page. Sign in manually.
* To end a process and return the phone to its starting screen, press the End, Off, or Red phone button on the handset.

Notes

* Phone for Messenger works only with Messenger 8.0 or later.
To check your version of Messenger, click Help on the Messenger sign-in window, and then select About.
* Phone for Messenger doesn't work with Microsoft Windows Messenger
